How does the firearm storage process work?

Step 3: Your firearm is secured in a locked, monitored, climate-controlled storage area.

Do I need a background check to store my firearm?

No. A background check is not required when dropping off a firearm for storage. However, federal and Florida law require an ATF Form 4473 and FDLE background check when retrieving your firearm, even if it was stored for only a short period of time.

All firearms are stored in secured, climate-controlled, and monitored storage areas inside our Fort Lauderdale facility. This provides a far safer alternative to leaving firearms in vehicles, hotels, or temporary lodging while traveling.

Do you store NFA items or suppressors?

No. We do not accept NFA items, including suppressors, short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns, or other regulated NFA firearms or devices for routine storage. The only exception would be storage involving a court order or similar legal directive.

Why is a background check required when picking up my firearm?

As a licensed FFL in Fort Lauderdale, we are required by federal and state law to treat the return of a stored firearm as a transfer. That means an ATF Form 4473 and FDLE background check must be completed before the firearm can be released.

Is this firearm storage service legal in Florida?

Yes. Florida Gun Storage operates in full compliance with applicable ATF regulations and Florida firearm laws, ensuring your firearm is stored and returned legally and securely.

You may be denied entry into the port, refused boarding, or face law enforcement involvement. We strongly recommend arranging firearm storage in advance at our Fort Lauderdale location before heading to Port Everglades.
